HSE University Starts Application Process for Online Master’s Programmes
On April 1, 2025, the admissions campaign for 32 online master's programmes at HSE University's online campus began. Five of these programmes are being launched for the first time, while another five are delivered entirely in English. Read on to learn more about the fully online programmes available.
HSE University is a leader among universities in Russia and the CIS in terms of the number of online educational programmes and enrolled students. Since the launch of the country’s first English-language online master’s programme, Master of Data Science, in 2020, the number of first-year students admitted has increased twelvefold.
In December 2024, HSE was ranked among the top 11 universities worldwide for online education in the Times Higher Education Online Learning Rankings 2024, making it the only Russian university to receive a gold ranking.
In 2025, five new programmes have been added to HSE's portfolio, most of which are interdisciplinary and aligned with the needs of emerging markets.
The Master’s programme ‘Applied Linguistics: Foreign Language Teaching and Translation in the Digital Environment’ (includes English-taught and Russian-taught courses) offers two specialisations. Students can study either digital methods of teaching foreign languages or EdTech programme development, professional automated translation, and language localisation. The programme ‘Instructional Design: Theory and Practice of Learning’ (Russian-taught) trains specialists in designing educational experiences, developing curricula, courses, and training materials.
Another new online programme ‘Chinese for Intercultural Business Communication’ focuses on training professionals with knowledge of the Chinese language, cultural and social aspects, as well as business approaches for effective interaction with partners from China in order to establish business, scientific, and educational contacts between the countries. The language of instruction is Russian.
The programme ‘Digital Marketing’ equips future graduates with knowledge and skills at the intersection of marketing, data analytics, and digital technology for managing digital advertising campaigns. Graduates of the ‘Digital Engineering for Computer Games’ programme will have competencies in game development and game software engineering, with in-depth knowledge of game engine features. Both programmes are taught in Russian.
A total of 32 master's programmes are open for applications from April 1, most of which are delivered entirely online. Three programmes also offer an offline track in addition to the online option. Applicants can apply to an unlimited number of programmes. The application period for online master's programmes runs until August 8 or September 15, depending on the programme.
